Salam Syria - news from our group -

Our group on their tour Cairo to Istanbul have just left Syria and through Turkey. Tour leader Dave told us how they got on ...

Oasis Overland tour truck at Palmyra, Syria Our trips across Syria on our Oasis Caravan Cairo trip to Istanbul was good fun and we have seen the usual sites on the route. We spent a day in Damascus which was very quiet and everyone enjoyed seeing this great historic city and we had a quiet beautiful bush camp in Palmyra , then Aleppo .

trip was entirely without incident in connection with reports of new protests, which can look much worse on the news and in the field. The atmosphere was good spirit in the big cities we visited with the vast majority of the population supporting President Assad - It seems that people would like to change their constitutions and government personnel, but are behind the president himself. We know there have been problems in small towns, Dera'a and Latakia, but these places are not on our itinerary and our security of travelers is upmost importance so that we never get to all areas where this would be in danger.

Crac de chevalier Crusader Castle in Syria All Travellers Oasis enjoy their time in Syria, which is one of the most hospitable and welcoming country we visit during our travels. That has not changed and the locals are always welcome tourists with open arms and smiles on their faces . We have constantly been in contact with the head office and local representatives on the ground so that we were able to keep our group informed of what happens in the country.

Do not be once we felt threatened along our travels and tourists are very safe (where there are many in the country at the moment). Our trip to Syria coming to an end now, we are out of Turkey tomorrow morning first thing to some Turkish delight and maybe spot of belly dancing .

As Dave said, the safety of our passengers and crew is paramount and we are monitoring the situation Syria closely. Our route takes in Damascus, Palmyra, Crac de Chevalier and Aleppo , but does not include the cities of Deraa and Latakia where major events are held. We are in contact with our crew on every day as well as with agents and local partners in Syria and routes are flexible enough to be changed in the short term, if it became necessary.
