The Mwendo needy children and Orphan Project (MNCOP) is one of many organizations in the areas we visit that do a brilliant job help others with little funding or resources, so we thought we would give them a listing here! Some of our groups visit the project while Uganda and we sponsor two children.
MNCOP is based in Lake Bunyoni Uganda and provides and promotes health, well-being and the safety of children in need in the region Mwendo. The number of street children and orphans here is growing, largely because of AIDS and poverty. Currently, there are 559 children enrolled in the custody of MNCOP, aged between three and 15 years.
The children are housed in the community under the care of a registered tutor, usually a parent. The living conditions are very basic with most children sleep on a mat or directly on the floor and no electricity or running water.
The project works closely with the primary school Kakomo who paid 7 and 6 teachers unpaid teachers. Five volunteers work directly for MNCOP, educational health programs that teach children about environmental health, preventive medicine and family planning. Volunteers also teach sport, cooking, dance and drama and provide advice. The project promotes health care and the importance of education, encourage children to stay in school and to provide the means for them to do so -. Many children do not go to secondary school because they must work to contribute to family income
MNCOP relies heavily on donations from visitors to the area. Those who wish to contribute may do so during their overland trip to Uganda and can be * sponsor a child for $ 40 per month or can donate. You can also see more details on their website
