The success snake bite treatment
Meserani Snake Park in Arusha camping is always popular with our team in Africa (and the office staff!) and with anyone on our trips that pass through Tanzania. For many of us it is like a home from home, with Ma and BJ always make us feel welcome there.
What you may not realize is that the bar at the Park gift snake made all its profits to a small clinic, they set up in 1993 after quickly realized there was a demand of the local population for snakebite treatment. The small clinic was originally set up for the local Maasai, but it has now expanded and they are treating people from 100 kilometers away.
The cost of different serums and antidotes administered by their clinic averages about $ 0 each, and sometimes more than one to be given to a treated individual.
the girl in the picture was bitten in bed by a Red spitting cobra, and came to the clinic Snake Park where she ended up spending a month and as you can see it is now back to being happy again, smiley self.
Snake Park clinic treats between 60 and 100 snake bites per year.
