Deserts & Gameparks Part 1 -

I returned from my trip Gameparks & deserts, and just had to share my fantastic experience of traveling from Victoria Falls to Cape Town.

for this first blog, I'll cover Zimbabwe and Botswana, Namibia and South Africa to follow.

people often ask me where flying in and I have always flown in and out of Livingstone, Zambia, for this is right on the border of the city of Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe, where your journey starts from. The only reason I did is that I often found cheaper and more frequent flights. But you can also get flights to Victoria Falls.

Flying to Zambia, I got my double entry visa on arrival at the airport. The reason for the double entry is that there are activities on this side of the Falls, from micro-lighting, sitting in pools Devils & Angels (depending on current / depth Zambezi) to name a few . If I had to fly to Zimbabwe, again, I would get a multiple entry visa for that reason.

There are so many things to do in Victoria Falls, so I arrived a few days before the trip was to begin to take as far as possible, and it varies for everyone and what you want to do - but my list was great (as my theory is when you are there - done). So I did everything from sitting on the edge of the falls in Angels Pools, gripping me from the edge of the throat more than once for the swing Gorge (click here for the video of me doing the swing throat!) , At the closing zip line and the flying fox! I also wanted to see the air falls, and I made the micro-lighting option and the helicopter (like my dream has always been to go to a helicopter and could not think of a better place to do it!), and I also sunset cruise on the Zambezi sun. So as you can see, you can do many things here (and I have not even mentioned all you can do here!), But the great thing is that it is totally up to you what you want do, and there are more relaxing things to do, like having tea at the Victoria Falls Hotel.

leaving Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe we left and headed to Botswana, where right away, I was treated to the incredible sight of so wild elephants while on our Chobe river cruise included. After setting off on our boat, it does not take long before we started to come across different herds of elephants heading to the waterfront for their evening drink. There were also a few crocodiles basking in the sun, while hippos wallowing and some even braved the heat to graze, and we could even see a fish eagle, making it caught a fish right next to our boat!

Then was a camping that lived up to its name, Elephant Sands. Shortly after uprooting and setting up our tents, two large elephants roamed the campsite to the water hole, the pool and bar. As elephants are my favorite animal, I'm pretty excited about that!

From there we continued to Maun, where some of us chose to go on a flight over the Okavango Delta. I was fascinated to see for myself how this was an area to the extensive air, and hopefully identify some animals too. We are not disappointed because we could see how the vast Delta was, we could even see a lot of animals from in the air too (although I would not bother trying to get good pictures of them as he out it is quite difficult to do as you fly over them!), we saw giraffes, hippos and many baby hippos on the pasture, elephants, zebras and buffaloes. Seeing the Delta from above, I am eager to see from a Mokoro (local canoe) the next day.

The advantage to see the Delta Air helped me realize that there was almost no shade for the people while in the Mokoros, so I knew to be very sunscreen, and cover! After working Mokoros who went where and with a little work on where to put all our bags, eski and tents, and are polers would, we left. It was not long before we heard hippos nearby and we wove our way through the small rivers, and beautiful lilies pepper our trip we went along - it still amazes me on how whose polers know where they go! But after about an hour we reached our site where we set up camp, a small clearing under the trees in the delta. The guides then gave us a lecture on what you can and can not do (for example, do not go wandering without them because there are wildlife about, such as hippos, and they made a hippopotamus print near my tent!).

the Delta is the downtime, and you can either sit back and relax and enjoy being away from civilization and modern comfort. Or if you want you can ask them to take you polers in mokoros and teach you how to pole - is revealed, it is actually quite difficult, although it was for me and a few others, while some were just naturals! There was also a water hole about 10 minutes walk from the camp was safe to swim, which was a nice way to cool off in the radiant heat.

Late afternoon as temperatures dropped slightly for those who wanted were taken on a sunset walk, which was the one-hour ride with two guides. Sometimes you are lucky and get to see wildlife while on this ride, we managed to see some hippos in the distance, but the main bonus of this evening stroll began to watch the most amazing sunset. We are also entitled to some fun songs polers around the campfire in the evening, where they received join us, and it seemed that the hippos were to join in as well!

Next stop Namibia, I'll catch up with you in my next blog!

And do not forget that you can now do this trip in the opposite direction from Cape Town to Victoria Falls.
